Salesforce Shield Introduction

Salesforce Shield has been introduced to help users with complex governance and compliance needs. It is basically a set of integrated services built in the Salesforce1 platform.
It lets customers see who is doing what with the sensitive information, know the state and value of their information going back up to 10 years, and cipher the sensitive information.

Nowadays, there are a number of organizations of different industries and different sizes that use Salesforce to run their businesses quicker. Since the usage of the Salesforce platform for significant business capabilities is growing, the tracking changes for data, observing user behavior and checking data loss has become more important than ever. The data on the cloud is sensitive and so the security and compliance requirements have become frequently complicated.

At this point, the salesforce shield role takes place. It helps to address these necessities while allowing us to proactively monitor user action and enforce security policies. It provides enhanced security, monitoring, and maintenance of the decisive data stored in Salesforce.

Salesforce Shield includes three core services:
1. Event Monitoring
2. Field Audit Trail
3. Platform Encryption

Event Monitoring:
Event monitoring is one of the many tools that Salesforce presents to help manage data security. It makes us see the details of user activity in the organization. These user activities are referred to as events. One can view information about individual events or trace trends in events to quickly identify unusual activity and safeguard the company’s data.
There are a number of events that we can track such as:

1. API calls
2. Apex executions
3. Visualforce page loads
4. Logins
5. Logouts
6. URI (includes web clicks in Salesforce Classic)
7. Lightning (includes performance, web clicks and errors in Lightning Experience and the Salesforce mobile app)
8. Report exports

Field Audit Trail:

Tracing the extensive quantity of data companies is an essential part of the IT governance plan. However, managing an audit trail can be complicated and resource-concentrated. Field Audit Trail gives customers a way to go back in time and see the state and value of their data on any date, at any time. It extends what is currently available with Field History Retention, giving customers up to 10 years of audit trail data for up to 60 fields per object. It is built on a big data backend enabling massive scalability and letting customers access audit data in just under two minutes.

Platform Encryption:
It helps to encrypt the most sensitive data at rest while preserving critical app functionality. Platform encryption is natively combined with key Salesforce features, so basic functionality like search, lookups, validation rules, and Chatter are shielded. It provides the users with a full 360-degree view of the customers by bringing and maintaining organized, private, or restrictive data with assurance using Platform Encryption.
