We can find the Insured’s name in the 5BPI group. The name of the insured can be a free-form text name, a family name, or an individual’s name. The insured’s name is contained in this BIS Group in the format that it will be indexed in the business system. The named insured for the policy is delivered in one or more Supplementary Name Groups with a Name Type of “DEC” if the named insured is different from the index name. The name in the BIS Group is the name that will show on the Declarations Page of the policy unless a Supplementary Name Group with a “DEC” name is specified in a specific transaction.

Personal
The first byte labeled “NAME TYPE INDICATOR,” carries a character code with the letter “P” to signify that the rest of the data element is made up of a list of names.
Bytes #2–9: PREFIX: 8 characters containing any prefix that isn’t a part of the name itself, such as Dr., Mrs., etc. The contents will be replicated exactly as they appear in the data element because they are literal.
Bytes #10-25: FIRST NAME: A string of 16 characters that includes the person’s first name or first initial.
Bytes #26-36: MIDDLE NAME: A person’s middle name or initials, consisting of 11 characters.
Bytes #37-56: LAST NAME: A 20-character text string that contains the person’s last name.

NAME TYPE INDICATOR: Byte 1 is a format-specific code of one character. includes an “F.”

Bytes #10–36: COMBINED NAMES: 27 Characters of text that contains the combined names in the order in which they should appear (for example, “Sam and Mary”).

Bytes 57–60: SUFFIX: 4 characters that include a last name ending, such as Jr., CPCU, etc. The materials will be reproduced in their entirety.

Generic
Byte #1: NAME TYPE INDICATOR: A single character code beginning with the letter “G” that denotes that the remaining data in the element is a personal policyholder name. A character line of thirty (30) and a character line of twenty-nine (29) are handled as separate character lines for each of the fifty-nine (59) characters. The format is what is anticipated to be needed by businesses for uploading policies.
